AOL has been around for a long time. AIM is their version of ICQ; it has nice advertisements on it. You can keep in touch with other AOL users, and you don’t have to be on AOL. You don’t need to be a member of AOL to use AIM. It’s free; it just has an advertisement on it like AOL does.
AOL’s AIM has had a few bugs, including easy decryption of password files. An application has been made to show how easy they are to decrypt. Scenario: A new version of Netscape gets installed on Lab computers, AOL’s AIM is installed with it. Some user wants to keep in touch with their buddies. If they use AOL, the password they use for AIM is likely going to be their AOL password. If you have the balls to enter your info on a computer that isn’t yours, well it will be the password for AIM on that computer. Anyone can log on as you and harass people. Who knows? I recommend ICQ if you want to use an instant messenger.
You need to sign up for it; it’s free though. Click for a final version or be a rebel and use their beta version.
