Netscape Navigator for MacOS Security Issue: The problem is in fact very simple, Netscape stores saved passwords as cookies in a file called MagicCookie that can be found in the netscape user folder (different for each user created.) [Read More]

OnGuard the desktop security program uses emergency passwords. These are passwords generated by the program in case the admin forgets his password. They usually give the user complete access to a computer. nOGuard 2.0 is a program that generates emergency passwords for OnGuard 3.1 and 3.3 in case the administrator forgets their password.

ADVISORY! for NetBarrier. - Intego software (www.intego.com) offers a security software package for the Macintosh platform. The software is a firewall utility that allows the user to chose between different security schemes (server only, client only, customized, etc) and block different kind of known DoS (pingflood, synflood, ping of death, etc). One way of actually protecting the user from a remote attack such as a pingflood is to allow the user to block the ip from where the attack is performed. The software either offers the user to stop or ignore the ip address (by default) or can be set to block immediatly the address for a given period of time or permanently. [Read More]

Update NetBarrier from 1.5 to 1.6. Some of the fixes include:
There is now a confirmation message when resetting the activity gauges.
The Log supports multiple selections and non-contiguous selections.
The Log is erased immediately.
Returning to the Log will display it in the same position, or with the same item selected, as before switching.
Log sorting routines have been optimized and corrected.
A 1 pixel display problem in the filter list has been corrected.
The "Never Ask" password option is now called "No password".
A bug which prevented changing configurations in multiple user mode has been fixed.
A company name is no longer required to serialize NetBarrier.
A Ping Sensitivity feature has been added.
An HTML Log Export feature has been added.
The default firewall mode is Client Only.
NetUpdate is off by default.

GrouchySmurf 1.0b is one of the most advanced denial of service applications made for the macintosh. The technology it uses (smurf.c, papasmurf.c) is not new and has been around a long time, but has finally been coded for the macintosh platform. Read our review of the application. This tool is powerful, it sends spoofed broadcast packets to a destination host. Use this application to test your own equipment, make sure your routers only broadcasting local packets and not broadcast packets coming from the exterior of the network.

Intego the maker of NetBarrier has just released version 1.0 of their virus protection program VirusBarrier. We have quite a review coming up so stay tuned. If you have used this program before give us your feedback!

My Privacy 1.2.1 is out. 'VSE My Privacy is extremely secure, fast and inexpensive. It uses the Blowfish algorithm to encrypt your data. That algorithm provides military strength encryption and it has never been broken.'

PGP Inc. has updated PGP Desktop Security (versions 6.5.2a/6.5.8) and Personal Privacy 6.5.2a, which fix a bug "regarding how those versions handle unauthorized Additional Decryption Key (ADK) additions to the unhashed/unsigned areas of PGP keys."

The cd also includes the original mac hacker archive that was once available on CD-rom, The Whacked Mac archives published by Space Rouge of l0pht. Netopia's Timbuctu Pro 2.0 Denial of Service - Simple connections and disconnections to Timbuktu ports can hang the authentication process and halt all Timbuktu services. To return to normal functionality, the Timbuktu process will need to be killed and the Timbuktu service is required to be stopped and restarted. The anti virus software Virex has just released their April definations. If you are on OS9, it has been reported by users on VersionTracker.com that it will not work properly. Others report updates work properly.

Disklock is upgradable to version 4.6.2 through Power On Software. DiskLock is now compatible with Mac OS 9!

Well the macs made it through that extra day of Feb.
Eraser Pro is a application to securely delete files without recovery. Using the method of overwriting the old data with garbage data. When tested it worked well but slower than Burn or any other deleting application. Has many functions.

Virex 6.1 is now released. Turn it on and Virex gives you total protection, shielding you from all downloaded viruses. One click turns it on and off - no locating folders, files, etc. Scan-At-Download will scan Zip archives, as well as files compressed by StuffIt Deluxe, Compact Pro and more. Virex even catches viruses hidden in e-mail attachments. If you do download an infected file, Virex will alert you and quickly repair the file without launching other applications, saving valuable time.

Shift Key Suite is a simple addition to stop users from pressing shift key to bypass extensions at startup.

The Mac Attack Denial of Service Attack first discovered/noted by John Copeland. This attack affects all MacOS 9 computers connected to the internet or network. Apple has released a second solution for the problem - first they released OT Tuner which corrected the main problem but caused normal conflicts with network activity.
